Under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 UK employers have an obligation to make adequate and appropriate first aid provision for their employees.
The Health and Safety Executive require that someone is able to undertake first aid duties at all times when people are at work.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as of October 2009 recognise 2 courses for the purpose of workplace first aid, the 3 Day First Aid at Work (Formerly 4 day FAW) and the new one day EFAW, Emergency First Aider in the Workplace.
In addition a range of courses also meet the requirments of the Appointed Persons in the workplace, a guideline from the 1981 First Aid regulations.
